Team Greene was created in 2005 when the CB East family learned of Larry Greene's diagnosis with Multiple Myeloma. A CB East alumni, Greg Chess, was diagnosed with the same disease a year before. When Greg was diagnosed, a walk was held to raise money for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF).
When Larry was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, the staff and football team wanted to show their support by participating in the walk. Unfortunately that year, the walk was moved and would be too difficult to coordinate, so it was decided to hold our OWN walk and open it up to the entire Central Bucks community.
Both CB West and CB South came on board and supported Larry and our cause 100%! Many alumni, students, and players came back to either participate or make donations. The walk started at War Memorial Field, proceeded through Doylestown along the hospital trail, around Doyle Elementary School and Lenape Middle School, and then finished back at the stadium.
Larry has touched so many lives and is such an inspirational man that, in ONE month, we raised over $18,000 for the MMRF!
Larry went into remission and enjoyed teaching again at East. Unfortunately, Multiple Myeloma can only be managed, not cured and Team Greene was reignited in the fall of 2012 to support him and his family. Larry passed away in spring 2013, and is dearly missed. Team Greene now focuses on raising money for a scholarship in his name given to a CB East senior who exemplifies his spirit. Through t-shirt sales, golf outings and other generous donations, we have raised over $25,000 to continue his legacy.
