DOYLESTOWN, PA. – The Central Bucks School District Board of School Directors approved a calendar for the 2017-2018 school year during its regular business meeting February 14.
Next year’s district calendar begins classes after Labor Day, on September 5, and has 184 days of instruction at both the elementary and secondary levels.
District Superintendent John J. Kopicki said: “The calendar is fairly similar to prior years and we have taken into consideration the interests of all of our stakeholders. We made revisions at several points based on input from parents, teachers, and the Board of School Directors.”
Among the changes from the current calendar are that school will be closed September 21 and 22 for Rosh Hashanah. The Christmas holiday extends from December 25 through January 1 and school resumes January 2. Providing a mid-winter break for students, there is no school February 15, 16, and 19. School is closed March 29 and 30, April 2 and April 30, and Memorial Day, which is May 28.
The 2017-2018 calendar for Central Bucks also incorporates a significant change for the elementary schools with the adoption of trimesters, rather than the current quarter system.
The final day of classes is set for June 15. Snow days will not be made up unless there are more than four. If that occurs, the Board of School Directors will review the calendar and make suitable adjustments to meet the state-mandated 180 days of instruction.
